“When you’re raised by someone who once survived on potato peels and coffee grounds, you develop a pretty healthy respect for food.”

This was the sentence my fingers typed, all on their own, while I was busy trying to forget that I was the child of a Holocaust survivor. It’s the sentence that launched a search for the roots of my food obsession, from my father’s near starvation in Auschwitz-Birkenau, to my colourful childhood, growing up in the restaurant business, to my flavour-soaked search to find my own voice as a writer, chef, daughter and mother.
